ABOUT WAXING AT BORA LEA SKIN THERAPY
Bora Lea uses the finest quality hard and soft waxes imported from France, Italy, Brazil and Australia. Each includes special skin-soothing ingredients and is developed to adhere to the hairs, instead of the skin. For bikini waxing, we use only Brazilian-style hard wax because it is gentle on the skin and leaves no sticky residue.
We offer four types of bikini waxes: The Bikini Line, Brazilian Bikini, and the Bare Bikini, also known as the Barekini.
We offer four types of bikini waxes: The Bikini Line, Brazilian Bikini, and the Bare Bikini, also known as the Barekini.
- The Bikini Line - Removes 1-2” of hair outside the pantie line.
- The Barekini - As the name implies, is for those who prefer no hair at all. All the hair is removed from the front, labia and inside the tush.
- The Brazilian Bikini - Developed for the thong-wearing Brazilian beach goers who like a little coverage in the front but bear it all from behind. The Brazilian Bikini leaves some hair in the front, such as a strip or triangular shape; generally, two to four fingers in width. All hair is removed from the outer labia and tush.
- The Full Bush Brazilian - Hair is removed from the labia and inside the tush, but the front is left full, cleaned up only around the edges of the bikini line.
WAXING FAQ's
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Ideally hair should be about 1/4" long. If it's been more than 2 months since you last waxed or shaved, trim your bikini hair slightly with a scissor before your appointment. We don't typically trim your bikini hair before waxing, simply because it leaves an unsanitary room and is difficult to properly clean between clients. Taking an ibuprofen about 45 minutes before your appointment can help with sensitivity.
Is there anything I should NOT do before my appointment?
Avoid alcohol and caffeine before your appointment as both can increase skin sensitivity and bleeding. If you are not feeling well, you may want to pick a more comfortable time for your appointment, but please keep our 24 hour cancellation policy in mind. Most importantly, stop shaving at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you are sunburned or very tan, do not get waxed.
VERY IMPORTANT!! The use of Retin-A, Renova, Retinol, Glycolic/AHA products, and Benzoil Peroxide acne lotion on the area to be waxed should be stopped 7 days prior to waxing. iF you use any of such products, or if you take Acutane, aspirin or blood thinners, you MUST inform your esthetician prior to each treatment. Failure to inform your esthetician about your use of these ingredients or medications can result in serious skin damage and discomfort.
What should I wear?
Loose, cotton clothing will be then most comfortable to wear immediately after waxing. During a bikini wax you can simply wear your panties/brief, but we don’t recommend wearing your finest lingerie as sticky wax will be applied to the area. For a Brazilian or Barekini you will need to remove your underwear. We do have disposable modesty thongs available for a small fee, at your request.
Is there anything I should do after waxing?
For the first 24 hrs after waxing, avoid heat, direct sunlight, perspiration, friction and pool or ocean swimming as the follicles may still be open, sensitive, and more susceptible to bacteria and sunburns.
Cleanse the area daily with soap and water. After the first 48 hours we recommend weekly exfoliation with a scrub, such as Bora Lea Skin Therapy Micro-Scrub or a buffing mitt to remove dead skin that might trap new hair growth. For those who exercise frequently, tend to perspire, or have curly hair, we recommend applying one of our post-waxing products daily, such as PFB Vanish, to prevent red bumps and ingrown hairs.
How often should I wax?
Depending upon how quickly your hair grows, we recommend waxing every 3 to 6 weeks. Most people wax once per month. The more regularly you wax, the less regrowth you will ultimately have in the long run. Keep in mind that shaving between waxes will interrupt the cycle and make hair coarser and more prone to being ingrown. If you'd like to get on a regular waxing schedule, check out our Frequent Waxer Program.
Will it hurt?
If this is your first time and you're nervous, your skin may be more sensitive than usual. Additionally, if your hair has grown thick and coarse from years of shaving you may experience some momentary discomfort, but remember, you are in good hands. Your esthetician is a caring and experienced professional who knows how to make the experience as quick and painless as possible.
Can I be waxed during my period?
Sure, but be aware that your skin may be a a bit more sensitive during that time of the month. Taking an ibuprofen 45 minutes prior to your appointment might reduce your sensitivity.
Is waxing for everyone?
Waxing is safe and appropriate for anyone over the age of 14. Brazilian and Barebikini waxes will not be performed on anyone under the age of 18. We will wax all body parts except the top of your head and dense male facial hair such as men's beards and mustaches.
